CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Learning about the history of Christianity and particular Episcopal beliefs, and about Scripture is a way to come closer to God and learn what is His purpose for you and for our Church. St. Andrew’s has an active education program for children and adults!

Ordinarily Adult Sunday School begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Youth Room with a video, lecture and discussion. However, during the summer we have Breakfast together at 8:15 a.m. in Byrne Hall. You know how much Episcopalians like to eat! So Sunday School takes a break. Various ministry teams and family groups volunteer to cook. Breakfast is $3.00 per person or $5.00 for your immediate family. It is served until 9:15 so you’ll have time to go to Worship at 9:30.

Children’s Church is held during the Holy Eucharist service all year; children and teachers go out to Byrne Hall for lessons and fun activities when the Readings begin, and return to the Nave after the Prayers of the People.

Our Sunday School teachers are dedicated and enjoy working with you and your children. They meet once a month to pray, plan, study, and share ideas. They attend Christian Education workshops offered by the Diocese. Volunteers are always welcome! We have some really good materials that can help you teach if you feel called to do so.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

VBS is held on weekday evenings in July so the whole family can attend. Last years lessons and activities and food will highlight the plight of families in Africa and what we can do to help them. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m., music begins at 7:00, crafts and activities follow and the evening concludes with worship about 7:45 so you can get the kids home to bed on time. On Friday evening we have a special presentation from the children about what they have learned. The Rev. Dr. Margaret S. Shepard, our Priest-in-Charge, will have a special class for adults this year, subject to be announced shortly. Everyone is welcome—parents and children from the neighborhood are invited, too—and we can always use more helpers. You should see the children do the Elephant Dance!

WORSHIP ON WEDNESDAYS (WOW)

WOW is THE place to be on Wednesday evenings! We start at 5:30 p.m.WOW2010 with Evening Prayer in the Church; at 6:00 we eat dinner and socialize (sometimes potluck, sometimes catered, always good!), followed at 6:45 with our super programs. The catered dinners are only $5 per person, or $10 for your immediate family. During the summer we are meeting on the second and fourth Wednesdays and with potluck on the second, and a catereWOW 2010d fund-raiser for the National Foundation for Transplants on the fourth Wednesday. (One of our members is celebrating his one-year anniversary of a successful kidney-pancreas transplant and NFT helps with the expensive anti-rejection drugs he must take every day.)

WOW is a less formal, less structure opportunity for Christian Education and Fellowship and we encourage everyone to come get a mid-week “fix” between Sundays!
